New Friends of CTE Blog Series Provides Platform for CTE Advocates
Silver Spring, MD, December 9, 2011 – Technology based education tools and methods not only engage Career Technology Education (CTE) students, they also help prepare students to meet the needs of a changing workforce, according to Jana Hambruch, an Industry Advisor who provides consulting services for Adobe Systems Incorporated.
In a new Friends of CTE Monthly Blog Series, Hambruch highlights technology based tools and teaching methods as one way CTE educators can shift from a “College Ready for Some” mindset to a “Career Ready for All” focus. Learning tools such as virtual or blended learning environments, blogs, streaming media, and social networks help students develop digital literacy, creative and technical skills, and critical thinking skills, Hambruch explained.
Hambruch said, “The majority of students who enroll in modern CTE programs that incorporate these learning styles and include a measureable result with an industry certification … are staying in school, graduating, and performing better on state standardized exams.”
Hambruch noted the free online curriculum, teacher and student resources and nationally recognized industry certification Adobe offers at http://www.adobe.com/education/k12/career-technical-education.edu.html. She specifically praised the industry certification, saying students who earn a certification “have a much better opportunity to earn a livable wage, either while beginning their postsecondary studies or embarking on their career.”
