Friends of CTE Blog Series Provides Platform for CTE Advocates

Silver Spring, MD (October 18, 2012) – The United States can be a leader in the global economy by advancing the capability and technical skills of its workforce through Career Technical Education programs, said Nicholas T. Pinchuk, Chairman and CEO of Snap-on Incorporate.

In a new Friends of CTE blog, Pinchuk noted the often-tested resilience of the U.S. economy and its ability to overcome challenges through innovation and unwavering commitment to success. Today, “what’s needed is an American workforce armed with the right skills” and a “workforce enabled by technical education,” he said.

“Well, the best thing we can do in this conflict is to enable our workforce with Career Technical Education (CTE). This is the way forward. There is no more important task in contemporary America,” Pinchuk said in the blog.

Pinchuk urged industry and government to focus on particular strategies to boost CTE programs. In schools, programs must educate and train students with up-to-date equipment and facilities. Also, industry should be involved with helping to set educational standards so that students learn the specific skills that are of demand in the workforce.

The Friends of CTE Blog is a guest blog piece hosted by the National Association of State Directors of Career Technical Education Consortium (NASDCTEc). The blog provides advocates – from business and industry, the research community and organizations – an opportunity to articulate their support for CTE. Guest bloggers provide their perspective on and experience with CTE as it relates to policy, the economy and education.
