State Director Roles and Responsibilities

The State Director has the title of Director, Career and Technical Education. The Director’s position is a career position that reports to the Associate Superintendent/Chief Academic Officer. There are 31 consultant staff with CTE responsibilities and six office administrative staff who report to the Director. The primary purpose of the director is to provide leadership for implementing the Carl D. Perkins Act in North Carolina. This includes interpretation to the many publics; developing and revising the State Plan and Consolidated Annual Report; setting a vision for direction to implement the legislation; planning and managing the federal budget; administration and program planning of the Career and Technical Education Division; collaborating across the agency to improve grades 6-12 education; and collaborating across financial and technology services to implement the Perkins program.

CTE Connections to Secondary Education and High School Reform

North Carolina currently follows the 16 Career Custer model. Secondary and post-secondary education collaborate to offer pathways in all 16 clusters.

In Summer 2009, secondary and post-secondary CTE will release a guide to NC employment information aligned to the 16 Career Clusters. The audience for the guide is students, parents, school counselors and teachers.

North Carolina currently follows the 16 Career Custer model. Secondary and post-secondary education collaborate to offer pathways in all 16 clusters.
