Mission

The Rhode Island career and technical education mission is to develop quality career awareness and career prepartion programs and services available to all students from elementary to postsecondary levels that are designed to move students from career awareness to appropriate career preparation programs at the secondary and postsecondary levels and beyond while providing the academic and life skills required to successfully pursue the education needed for entry into and further success in the career of one’s choice.

State Director Roles and Responsibilities

The Perkins State Director/Coordinator of Statewide and Career Technical Education. It is a career position and the responsibilities included are: the implementation of statewide career and technical education and the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act IV.

CTE Connections to Secondary Education and High School Reform

Career technical education plays a limited role in high school reform efforts. The State Director is a member of the New England Secondary School Consortium.
